This UNC, UNF and UNEF thread tap is a right hand, straight flute HSS machine plug tap for cutting internal inch threads in metal. Pick one of 38 sizes, from #4-40 up to 7/8-14. Each order is a single tap.
Use it on a tapping machine, drill press, CNC lathe or machining center. The supplier notes it can also be turned by hand in a tap wrench. Straight flutes hold the chips, which suits through holes, shallow blind holes and short-chipping metals like cast iron and brass.

- Fractional sizes: 1/4 in to 7/8 in, several pitches per diameter

- Package: 1 tap in the size you select
How to Read the Sizes
A size like 1/4-20 UNC means a 1/4 in nominal diameter with 20 threads per inch (TPI). UNC is the common coarse series for everyday bolts, UNF is fine thread, and UNEF is extra fine. Always match both the diameter and the TPI of your bolt or screw. A few sizes in this list use the supplier's series label with a non-standard pitch (for example 3/8-20, 1/2-14 and 3/4-24), so check the TPI with a thread gauge before you order.
Best For
- Machinists and maintenance shops cutting UNC or UNF threads on a drill press or tapping machine
- Repair work where you need a single replacement tap in one size
- Through holes and shallow blind holes in mild steel, aluminum, brass and cast iron
FAQ
What tap drill size do I need?
Drill the correct tap drill hole first. Common examples: #7 drill for 1/4-20, 5/16 in for 3/8-16 and 27/64 in for 1/2-13. Use a tap drill chart for other sizes.
Straight flute or spiral flute?
Straight flute taps keep chips in the flutes, so they work well in through holes, shallow blind holes and in cast iron or brass. For deep blind holes in steel, a spiral flute tap pulls chips out better.
Is this a set?
No. Each option is one tap in the thread size shown.
